Trip to Treetop Walk Singapore

Somewhere in Central Singapore lies an area labelled as “The Central Water Catchment Area – MacRitchie Reservoir“. Deep in within the MacRitchie Trail you will find a suspension bridge known as the Treetop Walk.

View of the Treetop Bridge

Treetop Opening hours

How to get there fastest?

A full roundabout slow walk will take you about 3 to 4 hours. I would recommend you to park your car at Venus Drive and start your journey there. Reason is because there are ample of FREE to park parking lots and it is the nearest route to Treetop Walk. Look out for the “To Treetop Walk” sign at the carpark and begin your hike.

Along the way you will see interesting sightings of fauna and flora.

In the forest, signboards can be seen everywhere.

From Venus Drive carpark, your first midway house will be the Rangers House where you can refill your water and have a quick wash up.

Hehe… See how clean the toilet is in the forest!

From the Rangers House to the Treetop will take you 20mins. Be prepared to walk up a cemented slope, then down a flight of stairs to the bridge entrance.

Do take note the bridge is only a one-way Street. Remove your hat to meet the strong wind and prepare your camera for the majestic view of the rainforest and reservoir.

Next upon exiting the bridge (Note: There’s no turning back upon exiting. Hence, make sure you take all the pictures you need.), you will be greeted with a flight of upscale and downscale stairs. Happy walking.

If you have not had enough view of the forest, take another 30 minutes of relaxing walk to the Jeluntong Tower.

Things you may want to bring along:

  • Insect Repellent
  • Cap
  • Poncho / Brollies
  • Water
  • Non-slip walking shoes

I strongly would not recommend you to bring any children under the age of 8. The bumpy and soil route is definitely not a yes for strollers. The distance and terrain is not going to be easy for a ride on the shoulder too.

Check out the weather with the meteorology station before proceeding.

Lastly, do not attempt to feed the animals there! Else take risk on being attack or even lose your favourite camera and hat.

Table adopted from Health Promotion Board Singapore

Since Wawa is currently in the remission status. Her Oncologist has arranged her to meet the Immunisation Consultant for plans to re-vaccine.

During her first visit with the Immunisation Consultant on Feb 2017, she was given two jabs at one go simultaneously on both arms. As usual, she did not cry.. Good job Wawa!! The jabs were booster for Hepatitis B and Pneumococcal. The side effects are soreness & redness on the jabbed area and fever for a day or two. Paracetamol has been fed on a six hourly basis for fever.

Two more sessions of jabs have been arranged for every fortnightly. All taken vaccinations will be updated to her national health report with Singapore Ministry of Health.

Her planned revaccination (Fortnightly):

  • Hepatitis B & Pneumococcal
  • DPT & Polio

Remission Status – Then?

So what comes next when your child’s doctor declares remission status?

It means… Good News!!! For cancer patients once they have completed all courses of treatments and scans with no new cells found, Doctor will announce you as in Remission Status, which also mean 99% cured!

Weird right? That’s because the average timeline for 100% is about 10 years. Hence, whats the fuss about that 1% right?

Yeah! Wawa has been announced to be in remission status in the month of September 2016.. Rejoice!! No more treatments.. Only quarterly planned scans for her and of course reviewing with her Oncologist, Plastic Surgeon and Speech Therapist.

Being in a remission mode, Wawa’s doctors have also made planned for her to be re-vaccinated.

So now, no more ipad, baby talks and “holiday at KKH” for her.. It’s back to serious schooling curriculum. Hehe….

We continue to pray for all other patients at KKH WARD 76 to fight strong and get well!!

Christmas Prezzies 2016

Christmas… It’s Christmas.. Prezzies.. And more presents!!!

Smart watch for Missy.. Yes! Mummy has gotten a Doki Smart Watch with the function to call, message, video call and of course gps tracking for her…

My personal thoughts on the Doki watch are as follows:

Thumbs up:

  • Sporty design. Bright color. Great size for a kiddo’s hand
  • Good selection of wallpaper
  • Good GUI for easy access of the function
  • Fast charging. Battery can last full day.
  • Class mode to disable calls and messaging function
  • Parental control to manage contact list and track all calls activities
  • Accurate GPS to track location and set area for alert

Thumbs down:

  • Must be activated with a valid 3G SIM card
  • Volume of the speaker on the watch is pretty soft
  • Not really water resistant

How to travel with port-a-cath?

After a long wait…. Wawa has finally gotten the green light from her doctors to FLY!!

In December, we took the flight out on Cathay Pacific to the cool cool Hong Kong.

Things to prepare for child who has a port-a-cath, just like Wawa

  • Obtain a memo for permission travel from the doctor. Ensure that the note on port-a-cath is indicated on the memo.
  • Prepare all your required and standby medications from your doctor
  • Pack some sanitizers and face mask.
  • Bring your stroller along (Trust me!! It will come in handy.)
  • Find out where to eat. Abstain from street food, cold desserts and soft serve. Drink bottled water.

At the immigration checkpoint:

  • Inform the security officer about the port-a-cath. They will perform manual body scan instead of walking through the X-ray scanner.

Lastly, have fun, stay safe and enjoy!!

Conclusion – Kidzania is a nice place for kids to role play.. But the waiting time is kind of lengthy.. Do not expect to complete all roles in a day!! Adults must be prepared to day dream your day away while the kiddos immerse themselves in their little world.

My suggestions – Gather your kids to brainstorm what is the game plan before the day to minimize any precious time wasted.

Hello Kitty Theme Cafe Singapore

In the Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 lies a Hello Kitty theme cafe. We’ve finally tried and tested some food on a queue-less Monday afternoon.

Well, the overall verdict was “Definitely not worth a place to queue for lunch!” perhaps good for instagramming.

The overall compound isn’t huge. So if you’re seriously considering to go on weekends.. Happy queuing.

The menu was an interesting one that I’ve ever came across.. Why? That’s because you will not be able to make any sense on what the dishes are all about.. You’ve to read a short paragraph to find out more about the dish.

There comes dishes of kitty.. Nicely garnished and presented..

Final BomB..!!

Self taken… “Souvenir”!!
